Press Conference
29-Marzo-2010
Speech by Counselor Álvaro Noboa P
Four years ago, I proposed to honor the memory of my father with the creation of a museum called the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum, and in the same spirit, we organized the 1st Biennale here in Ecuador. This year, we have surpassed expectations by receiving more than 300 works by national and international artists from the following countries:
Panama, Honduras, Guatemala, the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, France, Portugal, Italy, Israel, Kosovo, Russia and Turkey. That is to say, for the first time, a truly global competition of painting in our city.
I have gathered you together in order to present the jury that will choose the winners of the Biennale, as well as the Honorable Mentions and the paintings that will be chosen for display:
Ms. Larissa Marangoni, famous sculptor, a painter who has graduated from the best faculties. Mariela Garcia, whom I have known for many years, a great artist, a great museum director, and also a winner of international prizes. I still remember that in our youth, she came bringing prizes from all over the world. There is Alejandra Rossetti de Ryan, our friend from Argentina, and currently vice-President of Sotheby’s New York. Theo Constante, famous visual artist from Ecuador, and Mr. Joseph Roberts, curator from Seattle, state of Washington, the United States.
Here you have the members of the jury.
