The II Guayaquil Biennale of Painting closes - El Comercio Newspaper
25-Junio-2010

The II Guayaquil International Biennale of Painting closed Wednesday night. 64 works, selected out of a total of 385 works from 288 artists from 25 different countries, were on display for two months.

The first two places were taken by 25-year-old Guayaquilian, Juan Caguana, with “Picnic”, and Saidel Brito, Cuban artist resident in Ecuador, with “Council Halls”. The United States artist, Kate Vrijmoet, earned third place with “Shotgun Accident”.

Álvaro Noboa, patron of the event, thanked those people and organizations whose collaboration made this second edition of the Biennale possible. Noboa also indicated that alongside his business activities, he will continue promoting cultural and artistic projects. Even more so since the museum where the Biennale took place, located in the center of Guayaquil, bears his father’s name, Luis Noboa Naranjo.

Joseph Robert (USA), Alejandra Rossetti (Argentina) and Theo Constante, Larissa Marangoni and Mariela García of Ecuador selected the semi-finalists and the winners. Pablo Martínez Rojas was the director of the Biennale. Red. Guayaquil.
