Biennale Jury is now set - El Telégrafo newspaper
31-Marzo-2010
Last Friday, in the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum, the five jury members of the II International Álvaro Noboa Pontón Biennale of Painting of Guayaquil, Ecuador, carried out a pre-curatorial process of the more than 300 national works received until that date (6pm, last date stipulated in the regulations). Representing the country as jury members are the archeologist and painter Mariella Garcia; the sculptor and painter Larissa Marangoni; and the painter, Theo Constante.
As had been previously announced, two members of the jury are foreigners: the curator from the city of Seattle, (USA), Joseph Roberts and the Vice-President of Sotheby’s New York, Alejandra Rossetti. The novelty of this second biennale is that there are works submitted from 24 countries, among them Turkey, Switzerland and Holland. According to Marangoni, there is no difference made between paintings regarding provenance because each has its own strengths. The difference could be in the space the biennale has for exhibition, which opens on April 28.
On display will be 50 works, including those winning the first three places and three Honorable Mentions. For Rossetti, the selections made to date have been unanimous, while Roberts has expectations of the Biennale growing and of more countries participating with high-quality works.
First Place of the Competition carries US $20,000; Second Place, US $10,000; Third Place, US $5,000.
